77 550f wont idle
« on: April 03, 2010, 04:11:42 PM »
Hey everyone. I recently replaced the points, condensors, and plugs on my bike. Now it only roars to life when I'm giving it about half throttle. When I let go the bike dies. I've checked my timing over and over, seems right. Battery is 100%. Any ideas?

Gas tank have anything other than gas in it?  rust?
 Carb pilot jets clogged?

No air filter?   You sure its and F model and not a K model with the PD carbs?  You have a choke lever or a choke knob (as found on PD carbs)?  No, I don't think you are crazy, but prior posters have been mistaken.

Double check your points gap and timing.  Also, new points come with a coating to keep them from rusting in storage.  Clean and polish the points faces with a clean, white, non-glossy business card dipped in brake fluid.

If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I'm sure its an f model, choke lever and VIN agree. I should note it was running fine before I charged the battery (used a battery tender so I don't think I fried it. It was running better with completely knackered points, ill post a pic of before after.

Since the touble started after you replaced the points/condenser it's probably related.  It is hitting on all 4 cylinders?  Start it up briefly and then feel the exhaust pipes to see if they are all warm.
