76 550 motor in a 77 550 - anything I should know about?
« on: March 31, 2010, 08:09:00 AM »
Hi,

I have a 77 550k that I am going to take the motor out and put in a motor from a 76 550k. They both look pretty much the same.

I want to use the carbs from the 77 because they are in great shape. I see some small differences in where they attach to the motor, but I don't think it would be a problem.

Does anybody have any experience with this and maybe have some thoughts or suggestions. I would appreciate any tips.

Just wanted to check out there before I started ripping things apart.

Oh, and thanks everyone for a great forum. I have learned a ton at this place.

Later,

Chris

P.S., I'll post some pics of the bikes tonight. I am at work right now ;)

you will need to fit the inlet manifolds and rubbers from the 77, use new "O" rings to the head---same as tappet cap "O" rings
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
