CB350F won't start
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:35:04 AM »
I have been primarily a lurker.
I purchased a '73 350F last September with 14600 on the clock.  Last time it was registered was 1993.  I overhauled the carbs, new points, plugs and oil changed.  It fired up.  All electrical worked, except turn signals.  They lit up but would not flash.  The bike had an oil leak by #1 cylinder.

I decided on an off frame restoration.  Pulled the head and cylinders installed new gaskets and seals.  Frame powder coated and repainted stock red.

Bike is fully assembled.  Turn signals do not light.  All other electrical works.  Good spark with  kill switch off, no spark will kill switch on. Carbs are full of fuel. Bike turns over well.  Gains oil pressure without starting.  ???

Possible diagnosis? Do I have the cam shaft in 180 degrees off?  Any input as to why it will not fire up is appreciated.  Any input why signals will not function (installed new stock flasher) is also appreciated.

OK well I am sure the experts will chime in soon here.

The signals I would bet is a ground issue - inspect everything again real close. Also, since you switched out the flasher I would double check all that. Wiring issues can be a PITA - you gotta know when to walk away.

Regarding the cut off switch it seems maybe you have wired it backwards? Dunno if this is possible but if it sparks one way and not the other??

Good luck...
