750 K1 Front Damper Valve Forks
« on: May 05, 2005, 06:31:24 PM »
Hi folks - I have only just registered with the sohc group am am pleased to see the camaraderie between fellow enthusiasts.
I am currently replacing the fork stanchions on my K1 due to severe pitting that resulted in seal destruction (not the Canadian wood clubbing variety).
On removing the 'valve front damper' part number 51443-273-000 from the stanchion I noted that the one on the left was facing the opposite way to the one on the right tube (ie. chamfered edge facing upward on right tube and downward on left tube.)

The damper is a metal ring approx 10mm high with an external diameter of approx 50mm (these are rough approximations). The ring is chamfered on one inside edge.
I cannot find any detail in the shop manual on which way the damper valve is supposed to be fitted. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Richard

There was a pretty good post in the FAQ, Dealing with pitting. Smoothing it out with JB weld.
