550 front brake light switch
« on: March 31, 2010, 12:43:53 AM »
I'm wondering if anybody has a source for the front hydraulic brake light switch? Mine hasn't worked since I got the bike and seeing I'll be replacing the hoses & shouting the m/cyl an o/haul soon, I thought now would be a good time to replace it. Maybe it's just gunked up, but just in case I might need one.

Honda part #35350-300-016. Discontinued by Honda apparently.

I think Dave Silver has sourced pattern part
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Could always go with the banjo style: http://z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=3379

Replace hoses with stainless lines and put a phenolic piston in while you're at it  ;)

Thanks for that link, looks like that could be the way to go for the switch, I'll just have to see where the best spot to install it.
As far as braided hoses go, there's a pitfall here in Queensland with Dept of Transport.
"Made up hoses are not acceptable. Where brake hoses are replaced with aftermarket products, relevant standards approval marking is required.
Motorcycles manufactured on or after 1 July, 1975, the brake hoses must be marked as per ADR 7/00. (Made up hoses are not acceptable unless specifically approved.)
Braided hoses are acceptable provided they are approved and correctly marked. Refer
AIS Information Sheet 7 – Braided Brake Hoses."

That information sheet then goes on to say that the hoses must be labelled & they have only approved 4 suppliers by the look of it.

I looks like if the hoses don't have the right markings, the bike won't get through a safety inspection.

I wonder what caused them to go snotty like that when racers use them all the time

Yeah, you have to wonder.
Maybe they collect money before they endorse the hoses?
Oops, that smacks of graft & corruption doesn't it?
