old dirt bikes- to restore
« on: April 02, 2010, 05:12:27 PM »
I know nothing of early dirt bikes, but there are 1960--80 barn finds around.  I prefer a Four stroke, 1965-79ish.
What are the best junkers to rebuild?
Which ones to stay away from?
A loaded question, but maybe I get lucky and there is but a few choices?

Parts availability may be limitted on some makes, Honda might be pretty good though.

CL450 would be at the top of my list.  I love that exhaust.

Real dirt bikes like a 500 single?...........Scramblers like the CL250 or 305 twins?  XL 100 - 350 from Honda for trails and cross-country?  What are you talking about?         I am currently building a Triumph 200 Cub for a pit bike. It will resemble a flat-tracker.  Getting pricey............Oh and then you could go for the mid-70s trials bikes........very pricey and hard to find decent parts.

If you want 60s or 70s 4-strokes, you're pretty much limited to Honda and the Euro bikes, all the other japanese dirt bikes were 2 strokes until 75
