Originality question: 750K caliper Red Dot
« on: March 30, 2010, 08:50:34 AM »
I'm refinishing the front brake caliper on a 750K4 and I'll be duplicating the painted "red dot" and I've also noticed a small painted "red dot" on the front of the master cylinder. I'm curious to know why Honda did this and if it has any significance. Thanks!

Just a guess on my part...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Japan And i wouldn't be at all surprised if it's completely wrong...or right.

I was told some time ago, can't remember where, but it was done on the assembly line to show work was completed on a particular system so when a shift change came , the next worker could tell where the previous left off & so on down the line.  You will probly find a few more if you look close enough.  You can see them on cars & trucks as well.

Upon closer inspection the caliper has the manufactures name (Tokico) in the casting and perhaps it was their marking?

The mystery continues ...  Thanks for the replies.

I know the yellow paint on bolts was put on by the person that torqued that bolt up, perhaps its something to show work completed although from memory a new caliper or master had the red dot as well
