will 1978 Yamaha xs750 Reg/Rec work on a 72 CB350F
« on: April 04, 2010, 10:47:39 AM »
I need a rectifier for my 72 CB350F, and i have a 1978 Yamaha xs750 Reg/Rec combonation unit. Can I use this on my CB350F?

Any wiring issue  with this?
Thanks and Happy Easter,
Lee

Just guessing here..........No.  But I've been wrong before.  If you can read volts on you multi-meter, it needs to match the regulator and battery requirements.

You should be fine.  They both run 12V systems, and the reg/rect will provide that.

The regulator trims off the spikes coming from the power source (alternator).  So, anything above 14.4V will be attenuated.  The rectifier turns alternating current (supplied from the alternator - hence the name "alternator") into direct current.

The only thing you need to check is if the alternator and rectifier can handle the load coming from the alternator.  Considering how weak the alternators on our bikes are, I imagine the XS system is more than sufficient.

I have no idea what the wiring on the XS looks like though, so you are on your own with that part.

Thanks,
The wiring has two sets of wires coming off of it. one set resembles the cb350f's five wire plug, I assume this is for the rectifier.

It also has a 2 wire plug--regulator?- I didn't know if I could use this combo, or just the rectifier part and use my stock regulator.

Considering the failure record of xs750 reg/rec units i wouldnt bother

Hey Neighbor-

Someoe did a thread or post of using  ford regulator ($12) instead of a honda one ($100+).

I think this was it, but take it with  a grain of salt; posted  by    'pinhead.'
