***KO Owners Question***
« on: April 03, 2010, 02:08:33 PM »
The PO had wired my rear KO blinkers to be used as brake lights and blinkers. I am getting it back to original.
1.) Can you tell me where the one OEM wire travels from the blinker stem housing to the connection on top of the plastic finder?
2.) There is a rubber grommet between the chrome blinker housing and black bracket that attaches the blinker bracket to the frame. Therefore, I have no ground at the blinker itself. There is a ground connection on the blinker socket that screws into the chrome blinker housing, but again there is no good ground at the chrome housing do to that rubber grommet between that black bracket and the chrome blinker housing. So I take it I have to run a ground wire too? Not according to the KO parts book I have here. So where did my ground connection go?
The first pic I am pointing to is that grommet. The 2nd pic shows what I am working with here. I can not figure it out as far as the ground.
Disregard that green wire in the 2nd pic as I was running a separate wire for the ground before I decided to consult you KO owners first.

I'm a K0 owner but using my K1's wiring. The wire that comes out of the blinker housing goes through the small chrome keeper on the fender, under the cross bar and plugs into the appropiate coloured connector in the wiring loom that comes out from under the frame member. The ground is a wire with a connector that will fit over the bolt that holds the light to the stem for it. The connector goes under the washer and nut on the bolt and the wire runs parallel to the power wire and then plugs into the 4 place green connector. I'll go take a couple of pics. Stay tuned.
Cliff.

John, My (late KO) has 2 wires from socket w/ground attached to socket base, and t/s body clamps directly to "trianglular base)(stem) w/o rubber insert. this agrees w/ owners manual's schematic. no expert, but can't remember seeing small dia. t/s's w/ recievers large enough to accept rubbers. luck g

Sorry, I just noticed you have a K1 too. I think it's the same as the K0. The signal lights on my K0 project have just wire one coming from them, the power wire. I'll post the pics anyway. Hope this helps.

Cliff...that 2nd pic you have there showing the ground coming off the bottom of the chrome blinker housing. That looks like what I will need here. Where does the other end of that ground go? To the green wire in the loom?

yes. there's a green wire with a 4 place connector on it, that's the common ground. You can see it in the bottom picture Johnie.

I looked at my K1 which has the same set up. But the K1 gets a ground from the set up. Not sure why this KO will not get ground except that the rubber grommets prevent it. But those same grommets are on the K1? I think I may just run a good ground to the loom. Nothing like a good ground to keep the electical running good. Thanks for the replies...
