bar swap- cb400f bars on my cb500 HELP!
« on: March 28, 2010, 10:49:48 PM »
Okay, so I'm swapping the bars on my cb500 to cb400f bars.

I have two problems so far, I'm sure more will manifest themselves later...

1. I put the wiring back, and think i got it right, but my neutral light isn't showing up. I'll be checking for loose conections, any other ideas?

2. Has anyone else performed this swap and found the master cylinder interfering with the clocks?

also looks like my brake hose is pinching against the triple tree and the kill switch doesn't work. *groan*

I contacted motion pro about making a set of throttle cables and a clutch cable to fit this specific application.

They said they can do it, for $35 per throttle and $40 for the clutch.

anyone know of an OEM Honda cable that would work for this?

i am doing this same bar swap and don't want my cables routed all willy nilly...

Just wanted to post some pics to show how the bars look.
also, you can see where I had some problems with the throttle cables, master cylinder and banjo bolt etc.

they feel good though!

Ya might wanna invest in a shorter brake hose from the master.

As far at throttle cables go......

A competent motorcycle shop can shorten those cables.

It just involves a trim, a new crimp and reforming the solder ball on the end.

Note I said competent.

yeah, it's pretty mickey mouse, I didn't expect to have so many clearance issues. looking at the stock bars now, I should've anticipated it. the hose length isn't actually the biggest problem there, it's the master cylinder and the angle of the banjo. I put those pics up to highlight the clearance problem.

It looks like you could try rotating the bars a little closer to you and then rotating the master a little the same way to make some more room?

Maybe.

I've got a set on order now and the hoses from Pompadori as well.

I didn't realize it would cramp the master cylinder so bad...

damn.

On one of my bikes, I made a couple of little spacer bars to kick the guages forward about 3/4".  This solved the problem, and was a simple, somewhat elegant solution.
