Well, I had crippled the GTX home last Wednesday because of noisr from the right rear of the car. GOt it up in the air on ramps and stands, don't hear OR feel anything. But, I'm sure it's the right rear axle bearing. Went to O'Reilly's and got the bearings (surprised that they had the bearings too!

Well, I finally got the opportunity to tear into the rear end of the GTX. It's been up in the air for a few days now and I pulled the right axle first, since THAT'S where the noise seemed to come from. So, I managed to get out there today and pull the right axle and, sure enough the axle bearing was in the process of coming apart. The bearing cage was breaking up and working it's way out of the inside of the bearing and the rollers were very loose with out the cage being where it should have been. It didn't take much of a look to tell that I had been given the wrong bearings. Just got off of the phone with a guy in Alma Arkansas (who I had met online on ebay and was given the proper part number and some good info. He reminded me about the procedure to remove the bearing from the axle and I was thinking I knew it and I was right on. You had to grind a notch in the inner bearing race, remove the rollers and the outer race, then you have to split the inner race and remove it from the axle. So, of course the parts aren't there and had to be ordered and will be in in the morning. But, they will be in route. ;) Sure does feel good to be able to go into something on a car, without it being a major operation. ;D
