dime city cycles, useful bike bits, good prices
« on: April 05, 2010, 11:32:46 AM »
no, I don't have anything to do with this place. I just found them recently and was amazed at how much useful stuff they have and their great prices.

check out the fuel tank disconnect! trick, eh? and the petcock for under $15 looks pretty slick. also mufflers for under $50.

I'm gonna try out their gasket set and for sure the fuel line disconnect, great idea. lots of cool stuff.

they even have an alloy seat for more than $100 less than other alloy seats available. I hope they don't jack up their prices at some point.

and the web site is well done. not as annoying to use as some other sites which blare out music when you go to their home page. I went to school for web development at one point and we were taught that music/noises on your website will drive people away like nothing else. and broken links and annoyingly bad navigation, etc.

cool stuff! check em out!

Dude. You did the SOHC4 version of slashdotting. I'm sure they'll thank you later  ;D

Safari can’t open the page “http://www.dimecitycycles.com/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.

basically means you gave them so much traffic their server couldn't handle it!  great for business, now they just need to get more server space!  i'm trying to view the site as well, worked for about 20 seconds, then i clicked on the cafe bikes, and error...

Not uncool at all. You're doing them a solid.

Of all the problems they could have I think excited customers posting your links for other potential customers to be excited about is a good one to have. It's an easy fix as well.

I like them fork gaitors - what do you think - would these work on a GL1000 set of forks with nowhere to affix them? Looks like they just hang on the tubes themselves and don't mount to the fork lowers or triples?

cycleX has those kind, too. I have a pair. I am going to try to make them work with my GL front end. and yeah, they just grab onto the fork tube, no need to attach the upper part to anything else. you do need to make a couple air holes in the bottom though, or they get all wonky from suction.

I was looking at those but they mount up on the lower like standard gaitors - you think they'd work out on a GL frontend?

Maybe having them loose on the bottom would let them stay down. Perplexed  ;D

I was thinking they'd have to be stretched over and ziptied at the bottom. which could probly just blend in w/ black zip ties.

The fuel valves are made by Motion Pro. Be careful what you buy and what you need it for. There are some that just disconnect and let the fuel flow, some that cut off the fuel on one side and some that cut off the fuel from both sides. If you are just going to put it in from the petcock, then a single cutoff would work. If you are going to do what we did and put them in a crossover on a tank, you will need the dual cutoff. They don't say which theirs is but I'm betting on the single from the price.

Those petcocks are everywhere too. Briggs and Stratton makes a bunch of styles and so does Motion Pro.  ;)

I like their website, decent pricing overall. I'm gonna check out some stuff when I have some $$. I just bought a bunch of parts and I'm broke.  :-\

anything bad to say about the mufflers?

I have a 4-2 from the 70's with shot mufflers, thinkin these with the upswept connectors would be pretty cool lookin. like a Norton or sport classic. and only cost me a bit over $100. and my gf loves 4-2's, hates my 4-1.

Those look like $2.50 Radio Shack resistors with heatshrink over them.

Think of the noobs dude and drop a link on that statement - and by noob I mean me.

The only reason for a high wattage resistor like that is to draw extra current so an OEM style flasher will work with low-current LED turn signal bulbs.
The series resistor in a LED circuit does a very different job - it allows just enough current through the LED to light it up but not melt it.
