Race-tech is saying I need new "inner fork tubes" to guarantee the forks not leaking. They are saying they will use Forking by Frank and that the tubes are $375...That is crazy high don't you think? http://franksforks.com/

I just talked to the Race Tech sales person and they are saying the Frank's Forks are built from scratch and will take 3 weeks...That sounds insane for stock fork tubes. Any tips on where to buy 1978K for tubes?

I always buy from Frank if the bike is a keeper.  The chrome they use is premium.  It's funny though.  You send a check to Frank after placing your order on the phone with his wife.  Write down your specs and send it with your check.  I can see why Matt Wiley and the guys at Race Tech use Frank's fork tubes; that way, they don't have to worry about any quality issues on the parts.

Cycle X stuff will work okay.

I was all excited about the Race-tech thing. I sent them my forks on March 1st (today is March 22nd). I was originally told 2-3 weeks turn around. For springs, emulators and installation it would be $584. Which I thought was high (compared to buying progressive springs and doing in the garage), but whatever nothing too crazy. Now they want me to buy $375 fork tubes making the total $959.37 and adds another 3 to 4 weeks. So 2 months and a Grand for a fork rebuild. Am I wrong to think this is not cool?

You will think it's cool when you ride it...lots have just bought the parts and done themselves.  I did it in a long afternoon.   Did your forks leak before you sent them.  If not, maybe tell them run what ya bring.
If it works good, it looks good...

 ImO   if FbyF are not hard chromed you are better off with stock.
 The aftermarket forks I measured a few years back, were not always on size.
 Tell them they have to guarantee  they are plus or minus 2 thou..

I checked they are hardchrome, so are 77 and 78 fork tubes for 750.
 As far as I recall, FbyF used to use decorative chrome, back in the day..

Forking by Frank tubes are hard-chromed.  For at least the last 6 plus years.

Put almost 200 miles on it this weekend...Ring break-in so I am staying pretty mellow and under 5000rpms...looking forward to seeing what it can do now that it is together properly

(These are from the initial test drive just down the block and back. I am not a squid).

New things to-do list:
- Mount front fender lower in the back.
- Get a new headlight bulb that is brighter and works with my bucket/ring.

That is one seriously sexy bike.  Glad you stuck with it and fixed it.

As someone who has purchased a newer bike (2005 BMW R1200GS), it certainly handles better than my 78 CB750K.  But every time I get on the 750 and take it out for a ride, inevitably someone comes up to me and says something like "Man, I used to have a CB750" and strikes up a conversation about it.  That doesn't happen on the BMW, which makes it definitely worth the money to keep the older bike.

Good luck with it.  Hope it continues to perform well for you.

Very Nice! Those pipes sure bring back the memories.  #3 makes a good makeshift case guard, don't ask me how I know.

About the Hlight, if you haven't already, a HondaMan relay setup will get the most from any bulb you use, plus 30% not uncommon.

For me. it turned out that it was 0-ring #13 that was causign the leak not the case-splitting seal

So I have about 1000 miles on the bike now. I was shown that my chain was stretched out a fair bit and my mechanic then adjusted it to the tight spot...I then drove the bike over 200 miles (to San Diego and back) upon arrival in San Diego I hear this weird clicking/clunking when I turned the bike off and pushed it around. (listen to video below) I then chose to drive the bike home 100 miles...it drives great but the clicking is still there. I have ordered a new 530 chain and sprockets. I really hope that this is only the chain...Please tell me that it is...I sprayed Wax-lube all over it and it seems to be slightly less now (probably a good sign?)

That doesn't sound like chain noise    If you pull in the clutch and spin is the click still there?

Is the noise in the transmission sprocket area?  Sounds loud enough you could feel it. Have you pulled the cover of and ensured the front sprocket is still attached with both bolts or has a broken tooth?

IIRK: There were some early covers that weren't compatible with an 18t drive sprocket. They would click. Leave the chain draped on the shaft, or use a 17t sprkt, put the cover back on and see if it clicks.

I rode 539.7 miles this weekend. Still has a new sound when rolling in neutral after getting hot. Not sure what to make of that? I've gone over 700 miles in the past 2 weekends. The new 530 chain set up arrives this week. Thinking of getting a Dyna because it sputters when I really twist the throttle. But overall I'm happy and it cruises at 80mph all day

Found out a few things this weekend;

1- my front sprocket was on backwards and was grinding into my engine case, which was the cause of the sound
2- found out that you need a 530 conversion front sprocket to make a 530 chain conversion work with a 78K you cannot use a 1976k from sprocket...

I just ordered a 530 front sprocket that I hope will work from here: http://sprocketspecialists.com/ I called them and they physically measured the part for me...Fingers crossed!
