I bought this. Doubt I can install it until 2 weekends from now....hoping it fixes my Lag issue when I really lay on the gas...

Maybe I will need also this electronic ignition too, if it seems so good :)

Not necessarily. Any profound improvement would be a likely indicator that something was wrong with the previous ignition system. I have switched between stock points/coils to Dyna S with stock coils, to Dyna S with 3 ohm coils to even a Dyna III, also with both 5 ohm and 3 ohm coils with no appreciable difference on the "butt dyno". They all work well when working properly.  8)

Yes I am thinking that I had an issue with my points or coils or both? Either way...it's so much better now. I actually accelerate now! 85 in fourth easily. Very happy

Just wait until you can do 85 in second gear (on a 350) a la JWilde!  ;D

Joking aside, each time I've installed electronic ignition, the bike starts easier and appears to run smoother.

That is part of their charm. Taking a marginally performing bike and making it run well I happen to find very rewarding.  8)

I, too, prefer the electronic ignition instead of points. Fewer moving parts!  ;)  ;D

So...I put Godffrey's thinned rotors on and WOW...they are much lighter than what I had on there...and so far, no squeaking

https://godfferysgarage.com

I think I figured out the mystery of the warped rotor...there was excess powder coat on the hub!!!! Probably my old rotors are fine...but these are lighter, so I am happy...I also got the bike to 100.6 MPH on the GPS Speedo...it still had more to go...but Traffic tickets said slow down (it was on the 605 for CA peeps)!!!

NOTE: that drip on the ground is not from my bike

I am back! My electric starter seems to have stopped working. I believe it is my Stator. Should I source and OEM one or are there good aftermarket ones? Any help appreciated as always...

You can rebuild yours OR you might consider upgrading with a 1980-83 DOHC CB900/1100F starter.

I’m way too tired. I meant solenoid...

My starter stopped working. I think it’s my SOLENOID.

Source an OEM ONE? Rebuild? Good aftermarket?

It was working. Now it just makes my dash lights turn off. Then if I wait a few seconds I can turn the key on and off and they come on again. It makes no sound. I can kick or push start it easily. It was working fine, but did very occasionally do this same thing, but then work again after it got running.

I'd spring for the OEM, but there are lots of inexpensive ones on eBay.

Re: 1978 CB750K — It never ends! (Solenoid, I meant to say)
« Reply #1317 on: July 23, 2019, 01:25:13 pm »
Well the fun never ends. I finally had some time and went to install the new solenoid, which I thought was the issue.

SO I swapped it in and I had zero power. No dash-lights, nothing. So I put the old one back in, then...Checked the battery, it was good. Checked the power at the key switch = Good. Realized that the parking light WAS working. Cleaned all the connections in the bucket. Then I talked to an experienced mechcanic on the phone and I now believe that it is the START BUTTON....if I press the start button I can see the neutral light very faintly and sporadically flicker....So I am going to try clean and rebuild the start switch...do this characteristics make you think that it could be the switch? I just want to ride!!!!

Cleaned the switch. It was filthy. It was not the issue.

It being filthy would have reared its head at some point...so, it is good it is cleaned and lubed now.

Check the basics again and start testing for proper voltage at various point in your wiring where you know there should be voltage.  You are likely dealing with a short circuit somewhere in your wiring to give you the symptoms you describe.

Neutral right being dim could be a sign your neutral switch is dirty and not making good contact.

Scorpion AGM batteries are good quality. Be sure your battery maintainer is AGM compatible, older models do not treat them properly.

I've never used a Scorpion.  YUSA makes reliable AGM batteries.  If you decide to go lithium based, I would recommend Shorai.  IF you do go with a lithium-based battery, you will need a specific reg/rec that regulates charge voltage down to 14.0v (see Rick's).  Lithium batteries do not do well with voltage spikes above 14.2 V.

I can offer that I have had good luck with the scorpion batteries. My oldest one is four years old at this point and still seems fine. For the price seems like good value.
