they should thread out.
the "bolt" is welded to the ear and you just spin the reflector out

If the marker is spinning on the bolt, then the pb-blaster won't make any difference.

Do you want/need to save the markers?

Hack-saw to the rescue!



I was able to hack-saw them off. The bolt was too rusty. Days of PBblaster had no effect. I hope to have them media blasted and powder coated black...then I will glue the reflectors back on...hope that they are not too rusty fir this plan

There are some pretty crazy industrial adhesives out there...I actually glued my speedo-drive to my hub for my dual-disk conversion and its still rock solid on there....

Won't be using the standard ignition location nor the clocks...reshaping the top triple...turning out nice I think...might polish it all...maybe black paint, not sure yet...I think it might polish up really nice though

I did the initial cuts with a drill and a hacksaw...then its all a metal file and then 400 grit sandpaper

There is hope for replacement of a K8 petcock if you don't want to take it apart, find gaskets, and tap for screws etc.

Awesome, thanks!  Took the grinder to my frame last weekend to grind off some  tabs and the passenger peg brackets...now I need to clean it up.

I'm going on vacation but I fully plan to get this thing to rolling chassis upon my return...getting organized, tool wise, and parts wise...paint and powder coat next month...

I made my self a pegboard over the weekend...polishing and prepping continue....If only I had more money!!!! :p

Shifter fork chunk?


That little piece looks more like a bit of piston ring than shifter fork.  ??? ???

The discoloration looks normal for a bike that has been ridden hard with a lack of oil changes. Most engine are not quite that dark on the inside. It looks like that sucker was run HOT. Not bad, per say, though.

As for the tab on the tach gear, yes, just bend that down. The tab is there to keep the bolt from backing itself out and dropping into the valve train.

To take off the head, you will need to take out the cam and cam towers. The valves and springs do not need to come out, but since you have it at that point, it wouldn't be that bad a time for an examination.

You're gonna want to take those out. They're plastic and could melt. You can remove them using two sockets and a threaded bolt I think. I saw it on this forum somewhere.

All of these photos that you posted show how most of these 33 year old motorcycles.
They all need a good going over from top to bottom.

There are some rust and electrical problems just waiting to bite the owner.

That's pressed on. Simple green won't do it. See if you can find a thin pry bar to get under the dust seal. Give it a few taps around the perimeter and it should move. It helps if you have another set of hands to hold the trees down while you tap

Heat it upside down  for 2+ minutes with a propane torch and it will drop off. No force needed.

If you have the need to go medieval on it. break it into bits with a hammer and chisel.

That's what I did. But if you upgrade to tapered bearings you're gonna need to get that race off the steerer tube anyway
