I've never heard anyone ask that question, but I'd lean towards NO, for the same reasons you wouldn't want to polish the roof of the combustion chamber.

Imo, and according to Hondaman, you do...the smoother tou get the combustion chamber and piston tops, less tooth for carbon to build up and no hot spots to cause detonation/pre-ignition

New speedo bezel in the works

Cylinders honed. Pistons cleaned and ringed

Renthal ultra-low road bars installed. Bar clamp filed down to ensure a rock solid fit

Renthal Kevlar grips. Will have to get a shorter throttle sleeve

I hope to get the motor together this week. Can the neutral switch be removed when the engine is in the frame?

Couldn't you just cut a bit off the end of the stocker?

Cut down the throttle sleeve and set up the controls. Mocked up the fender very loosely. Still so much to do, but I'm getting excited

This engine is going together finally....dropping in the donor tranny. It's confusing....I think I got it right?

Here's the visible issue with the old dogs (right? Those are dogs?)

I have four manuals, but all tips welcome. I have a bearing in the freezer now (the lower case one) and I know that hole has to line up with that ring hole on the tranny spindle....but all tips and hints welcome

Progress!

Never take this bearing out. It barely has a load on it (edit: maybe it does?) and it took me about an hour to pound it back in even after freezing it over night and leaving the lower case in the hit sun for hours...why did I remove it?

How do you remove the clutch basket? I'm guessing some weird Honda tool?

Have not assembled the shifter mechanism but I think I have all the main tranny parts in the right place...

Need to clean a bunch of internal parts. Man, the PO must have never changed the oil...I guess new clutch plates might be a good idea as they are dirty, dirty

That is a worn shift fork; the dogs are on the gears. Make sure the snap rings are properly installed. Read this:

Clutch basket just slides off...cleaned a bunch of internal parts today. Really happy with how it's going. Slow, but it's really cool to finally understand how all this stuff works...

Hopefully get the shifter together and working tonight. Going to order a new clutch and other bits this week

Test fit....the going has been slow lately but this test fit is very motivating!

Note the Indy skateboard truck bushings for spacers!!!

I think I figured out how the shift mechanism goes back together. Now I just need to figure out how to sync it to be in the right gear. It's just at a mock-up stage as it stands

Edit: is there only one way this can go interns of how it's rotated when initially installed?

Crank shaft clean! Think I figured out the tranny, seems to shift through all the gears.

Ordered parts and won Triple A spaghetti pipes on eBay.

Need to research gasket sealer and get this thing together.
