If not, you might want to opt for these.  They will allow you use significantly more torque on the head.

Couldn't hurt...but now that I am committed to pulling the engine again...I will have the cam cover off and hopefully have an easier time cleaning out the old crap in there

Could be. Could introduce another frustrating variable as well...

But if you have stockers that have been torqued multiple times, they may be fagged out.

I think I am just going to try the gasket and sealer (as recommended in Hondaman's book) + put all the O-ring and dowel-pins back in. The leak can be temporarily stopped with rope...it's can't be that major of a leak....(I hope)...that way is 2 weekends. New Studs is Months for me unfortunately

You might consider thread sealer on the valve cover bolts too. Most of the valve cover bolts have bottomless holes, so if oil makes it "halfway" past the valve cover gasket to the bolt, then oil can weep out the threads of the valve cover bolts. I read this somewhere and had to verify for myself that most of the valve cover bolt holes are indeed bottomless and are exposed to the atmosphere.

I HIGHLY recommend going with stronger studs. 
We used the APE studs on Stella and when you hold them up beside the stock studs, there is a very noticeable difference in thickness and sturdiness. 

So far, I've put over 2,000 miles on Stella and she's still leak free.  *knock on wood*

Third time is a charm. I plan on pulling my motor on Thanks giving weekend and if I am really lucky, get it back in again.

I am replacing my BASE, HEAD and Cam cover with NOS/OEM Honda gaskets as well as putting the all the dowel-pins and rubber o-rings back in. (I used an MLS gasket last time and have some leaking)

I also bought all new Clutch plate as I was experiencing some slip and I have no idea how old the current plates are.

So if I have all the o-rings and the 3 main gaskets for the top-end and the clutch gasket...Am I forgetting anything? I think I will risk re-using the tensioner gasket.

I will also follow HONDAMAN's book to a T and use sealer were he says to...You can pull the motor with the oil pan on right?

Yep. I even leave the cam tunnel cover on too. I usually remove the carb overflow guide bracket from the back of the motor (next to the rear crankcase vent) as well as the exhaust studs (later style) or spigots (early style) though.

I have 300 miles on those 6 pucks (sealed with Permatex form a gasket 2)...I figured they'd still be OK...or should I replace them since I am in there?

just a few reminder pics...I am now thinking that getting the top of the cylinder resurfaced would be a good idea. The Head was resurfaced. I will be using OEM Honda gaskets this time and applying HONDABOND where HONDAMAN's book says to...and putting all the dowel pins and gaskets back in. (last try was MLS, yes I know I should have had everything resurfaced now). I did need to remove the Oil pan to get the engine out the side. We tried with it on...no way it was going to clear.








Looks like it leaked from these 2 allen-hean bolt valve-cover bolts (as well as the head gasket):

Check the flatness of the valvecover on a piece of glass..  Might have to work it down a bit with sandpaper on the glass..

Or maybe those screws were a skosh too long and bottomed out in their holes?

Give it a read.

You are on the road to getting it leakfree.
Hondaman has mentioned some issues with aftermarket top end kits oring sizes.  May want to look that up. Have to google search it, as the forum search is dead.
