Matching numbers and value.
« on: January 22, 2006, 07:38:15 PM »
Do "matching" frame and motor numbers really carry weight. I know they are not exact matches but close on the assembly line. But will putting a '76 motor in a '73 frame and building a nice runner for example, mean it will be worth less than having the original motor? I'm not intending selling the bikes anyway but it's just a point of interest. Or is just another one of my dumb questions? ???  ::)
Cheers,
Cliff.

As little as you can buy these bikes for nowadays it really wouldn't make a percievable difference UNLESS you were doing a concours restoration on an early K0.  If you're building it to be a rider that looks and runs nice, it wouldn't make a difference to me if I were buying it, as long as you're up front about why you did it.
