CB 550---Leaky head gasket, one cold pipe, lean plugs 2 & 3?
« on: April 06, 2010, 09:46:52 AM »
my bike (75 550 stock) feels like its running pretty well.  acceleration is smooth and even. no wierd sounds.

However, I have a leaky head gasket  >:( (just changed that a month ago with a Vesrah gasket) , plugs 2 & 3 look lean, plug 4 has fluffy black soot and plug 1 looks cold.  Also, after about a 10 minute ride at varying speeds pipe #1 of my 4-4 was warm but not nearly as scorching hot as the other 3 pipes.

the bike was given a full tune up in the past few days, valves, timing, carb synch. Air filter is well oiled and pretty much brand new.  On my carbs the air screw is set at 1.5 turns out and my jets are stock.  The only thing im not sure of is my clip position.  Spark plugs are NGK D8EA (the mechanic insisted these were the correct spark plugs as apposed to the D7ES I asked for)

Im about to check my compression numbers and get a new set of D7ES plugs, not sure what else to check though.
