Topic: Difference of close to 8000 between my frame and my engine numbers

I've been reading on here lately that it's common for the difference between the two to be as much as a thousand or so.

Does the fact that mine are almost 8k apart suggest that the engine is from a different bike?

Those other threads have me curious.  My frame is the lower number.

it's when your engine and frame numbers match that you need to be suspicious.

Yeah that was in the threads as well.  I had always thought they were supposed to match, and was disappointed when mine didn't.  That's what got me started on the search for old threads on the subject.

Not sure, the newer the bike the bigger the spread, they pulled engines out of the production line for replacement use, therefore the really old bikes have closer numbers than newer ones.
