alternater seal HMMMMM?
« on: May 29, 2007, 10:43:19 AM »
Hey all, last winter  I was puttering out in the garage and decided to fire up the old girl 73 750K  and when I did oil ,came oooozing out  from between the  shift assembly cover and the dyno cover well I had put a post on about it  a while back   and  thought it was because it was 25 degrees and 20 50 oil well! been rideing a differant bike (my chopper) for a couple weeks  went out to start  the 73 and with it idleing it was doing it again ooozing bad  so got looking at  a dyno cover off and it seems its comeing out of that little rectangle  rubber gromet that the  alternater wires run through now  It looks like you cant just change them and another thing is  oil must be gathering in the dyno when its sitting cause  I drove it today and no oil to speak of so when it gets all the extra out that  gathered its ok  I put new gaskets in back a while ago  and when I did the  gromet looked ok havnt opened it up yet   (soon) but was wondering has anybody had this problem b 4 and why si the oil gathering in there I been riding these things for 30 plus years and never had this happen ny input  apreciated Craig in Maine

Oil in the alternator is normal for the 750's. To help the wire grommet try Hondabond or 3mBond? or something similar...basically a sealant that doesn't quite set but doesn't flow either.

Well that is the side the bike leans to when on the side stand. So it probably wouldn't get much of a chance to drain out.

gonna pull it apart and really examine that gromet that seems the most logical thing is it just is worn out but in 33 years never had this happen first time for anything thanks all  seven fifty four ever Craig in Maine
