The reason I am not allowed a gun
« on: April 06, 2010, 02:18:50 PM »
I'm a news junkie, I love to keep up with whatever is happening around the world, my country, my city.
Some things just really really piss me off, I remember last year seeing a documentary on some obscure church group that attends the funerals of American soldiers killed in either Iraq or Afganistan , at these they attempt to disrupt and upset the already grieving families.
I just caught a news broadcast of a family who have been harrassed in this way by these Kansas based ghouls and the Father of the dead soldier sued the group.
He lost and the "Church" group awarded $16k in damages....duh!
When I first saw this activity happening last year I expected to read "CHURCH GROUP GUNNED DOWN BY UTE FULL OF REDNECKS" anytime soon after.
I'm really quite suprised that this hasn't happened yet!
Freedom of speach is one thing, attacking a family when they are at their lowest is sickening!
OK rant over.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

They are called the Westboro Baptist Church.  They are #$%*ing scumbags with some sort of religious backing.  The funeral they were protesting was of a soldier who was killed in action.  He was also gay.  They were protesting his sexuality at his #$%*ing FUNERAL!  Just SCUMBAGS.  The whole lot of em.

I have friends in the military overseas. Even though I disagree with their
positions on the use of deadly force I would never disrupt their funerals (if they happen I mean).

There are groups like this all over the US that have banded together just for the purpose of stopping those whack jobs in Kansas. This "church" doesn't protest based on a Service Member's sexuality but rather that the US Government condones homosexuals to serve in the military as along as they don't violate the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy. These are also probably the same ignorant people who would tell you that HIV/AIDs is God's answer to homosexuals.

I think the head guy is named Phelps. His church is basically his wacko family and other misguided fools.  He has some twisted logic protesting the gay community.  Many of the funerals he has protested at the soldier was not gay but because the military allows gays to serve he seems to think he is making some type of point.  He was up here a few years ago.  There is a level of solemn  decorum for these funerals but it would be nice to see the honor guard go over and beat the crap out of them.

Cheers Wolf, that made me feel a bit better about the whole thing.
Even though these dickheads protest, there are groups like the Patriots that are opposed to them and are there to help soften the blow for the families.
If I lived in USA I'd be signed up to the Patriots group, not a big fan of any wars but these guys are being sent by their government so are doing their duty to your country.
I'm still not allowed a gun, it's safer for my neighbours that way. :D

We have a Chapter of the Patriot Guard Riders in my area. While they have not had to deal with these sick whacks, they have expanded their role to providing a general escort for any Veteran who's family requests it.

The Patriot Guard does not use violence, they place themselves between the family and the protesters and hold large American flags up to shield the family from this vermin. It would take a lot of self control to keep me from #$%* slapping one of these azzholes.

Hey Hush, I lived and worked in Topeka in the late 60's and early 70's.  The rev phelps was a customer at the store where I worked.  He was a first class A$$ Hole then.  He's found reason to make a couple of trips to Alabama in the last decade or so.  If I had one of those things, I'd probably have gone after him, too.

as a member of the Patriot Guard Riders http://www.patriotguard.org/ i have encountered these "people" many many tmes. one of our functions (if the soldiers or sailors family requests us) is to provide a buffer between the family and friends of the soldier and these "fine americans" among other functions we are also frequently called upon to meet a soldiers remains at the airport and escort them through their final journey and as a color guard at funerals as well. one of our rules is we cannot interact, verbally or physically abuse these people because after all they are excercising their rights as americans that the departed loved ones have founght and died for. privately most of us would love to follow the leader home and "explain" why it's so objectionable to us what theyre doing but that would also lower us to their subhuman levels. not very many things anger me like what these people do. i live in a military town (home to Ft Jackson, the armys largest basic training base) and we have several family members either active duty or retired military (my dad went ashore at Anzio, my brother in law flew phantoms over Southeast Asia in the 60's and early 70's, my wifes dad was active in WWII and Korea) so the insult and hurt this group represents angers me, my friends and family. fortunaltely i am also a responsible gun owner and though i might fantasize about kneecapping this bastard with my .45 it's just that, a fantasy as i'd never stoop to their level for any reason.

Wow, thanks for starting this thread. I have heard of these wack jobs protesting at funerals and never could really figure out why the heck anyone would ever do that, it's just so wrong.
I've learned a lot and thanks for the info on the Patriot Guard, what a great thing they are doing.

The bikers you saw following the funeral procession is called the Patriot Guard. If anyone is interested in joining http://www.patriotguard.org/.

I went to a funeral yesterday where the Patriot Guard was present.  It was a bunch of folks (mostly veterans) who were very respectful and friendly.  They "stood guard" with American flags and had their own piece of the ceremony which was both touching and tasteful.  The gentleman who died was a sailor on the ship on which the Japanese surrender was signed.

I for a while have been quite surprised, that as motorcyclists, the folks on here have not been very involved in the Patriot Guard activities.

Another forum I am on has many members, in the PG, and there is  lots of  info on the forum and and discussion thereof, by the membership of that forum.

I see a lot of reluctance on here to join in events where there a lot of riders that are not on Japanese bike (meaning MC events in general)

As far as I know the PG events include all makes of bikes, but I am not sure..

I'm not sure but I think that they were blocked from coming into Canada and one of the comments made about it should interest you guys
1) Let them in, encourage them all to come.

2) Arrest them for conspiracy to promote hate crimes.

3) Have them assessed by psychiatrist(s)

4) Hopefully have them sent to psychiatric hospitals back in the USA.

5) Send the US Ambassador a bill for the expenses incurred.

A guy I went to high school with was killed in Iraq, his funeral was held at the high school and hundreds of people attended, including Westboro. They had a whole "obituary" page on their website talking about how Dan (the soldier) was gay (he wasn't) and how he was a sinner that God was punishing for joining the military and defending the United States.

I do like this guy, though:

Good on ya Spikey, what's that saying "It only takes good men to do nothing for bad men to prosper" or something in that vein. :)

Hey Dukie, they did the same here in NZ, closed all the huge mental hospitals to save money (society will look after them: according to the Govt) of course they now have to build huge prisons to cope with all the nutters that society didn't bother looking after. :D

False economies are our politicians favourite pastimes. :D

the 2 years i was rebuilding fuzzycycle i went in a support capacity with coolers full of bottled water and dozens of flag poles with their flags for the color guards. and what an amazing difference in backgrounds in members. from the guy that went for an extended vacation in canada during the late 60's and early 70's to the active duty marine, and it's all a family, relationshipos of mutual respect. we dont have the war hero clashing with the consciencious objectors.

I think a lot of communities are passing ordinances that prohibit protests within a certain distance from a funeral as a way to deal with these clowns.  All of them were in Iowa in full force when the state passed the law allowing gay marriage, but they were so completely outnumbered by people in support of it that they were really nonexistent.

I'm not one to blame the media for everything, but if the news folks didn't jump at every opportunity to talk about these dickheads and just ignored them, maybe they'd go away.

Here in Oz we just don't own guns. Mostly.

Had we had a gun-owing culture here, me and my a-#$&%#-hole neighbour and I would have obliterated each other a few times over.

Until I'd met him I had no concept of the most guttral sense of hatred, of pure loathing and revulsion that could be imagined between to two human beings.

Perhaps this is what is described in the Bible as "Satanic Influence".

I'm far from a religious person but I can now see the wretchedness of my neighbour as being classified as being belong to "the devil".

Nasty nasty nasty.

Hi Caavemann82.

Neither could I.

My most sobering/disturbing realisation was that I could watch this person being mangled into mush, with the most indifferent emotional response because of what they had had allowed to  happen to a puppy, or a kitten, a child , or to any mammal - land or seagoing or otherwise.

Embarrassed by the behaviour of the Human Race
