New dyna coils worth it or should I buy new wires?
« on: April 06, 2010, 01:18:42 PM »
i went to a local moto shop today that specializes in old japanese bikes.  I wanted to see if I could get some spark plug wire and some splicers.  The shop owner told me to forget the wires.  He said the stock ignition is "garbage" and I should just throw it out and buy a new one.

I have tested the resistance on the primary, secondary and the NGK caps and all check out ok but still Im having problems.  I have a what seems to be a weak spark on 1 & 4.  I thought it might be because my wires are a bit short and the stress on the wire was causing a problem so I was just going to replace the wires but I dont want to throw money away.  Is the dyna 5 ohm coil really that much better than the stock?

No, but if the coils are shot they're a good replacement.

A good first step would be to swap the coils around and see if the problem follows the coil.
