SWEET side cover idea
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:52:56 AM »
sooo, i think i have a good idea for a sweet side cover!

www.fotofab.com

i have one of their business cars and it's stainless steel with some REALLY intricate details cut out in it.  i was thinking if i got some exact dimensions for a flat left side side cover, i could bolt/screw this onto the existing side cover tabs, or cut those off and weld on some of my own!  ideas?  i don't have any pictures of what my idea is, but i want a flat piece with the CB750 logo cut out in it, so that it still has the racy look while maintaining some homage to the original piece...  maybe get some lines cut in it so that it's slightly see-through?  i don't know yet!!

if anyone has any picutres of some flat side covers, i would appreciate them!!  thanks!!

Made this one out of 3/8 inch aluminum stock.  Since I am a glutton for punishment I routed the edges and then the inside to thin it down to about 1/8.  Its shape is loosely based on the 77/78 oil tank that I leave exposed on the other side of the bike.  Unlike the stock cover it leaves the frame tubes exposed.  It is attached to the battery box with some bracketry and heavy duty velcro.  I have since removed the lower coverplate bracket that is visible in the photo of the cover mounted on the bike.   I am not completely happy with the flat look and have now made a contoured cover of similar shape out of fiberglass that I will eventually paint and mount up.  Sorry that I don't have a left side shot from farther away . . .

looks good, but i was thinking of doing something that would nearly cover the entire opening.  i think there was a 400 racer on here that had one on it that looked really good!  but i do like the "floating" look of that eurban, nicely done!
