Rock climbing.
« on: April 07, 2010, 07:51:06 AM »
Any members here in Minnesota that do rock climbing?

I am going to renew my gym membership to Vertical Endevors, but I need a partner for top roping. I have not been for a while so it might take me a month or two to get back into the better climbs but I still remember how to do everything.

If anyone is interested post here or send me a PM.

For the rest of you, anyone rock climb? What's your favorite climb?

Here in KC luckily we have a decent limestone climb right in the downtown area off Cliff Drive near the East Bottoms, I like to climb it every now and then.

My favorite climbs are Devil's Elbow off Route Z off 44 between Rolla and Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri and Sam's Throne in NW Arkansas.

Both are fun climbs for top roping.

Anyone in KC that wants to do some gym climbing at Ibex or some outdoor stuff at Cliff Drive, let me know, I have ropes, quickdraws and an extra harness.

Duke, I went to MOS school at Fort Lostinthewoods. Man that town right off base is DEPRESSING lol.

When I went to Joplin though I saw a lot of nice looking cliffs.

We have got Taylor's Falls, pretty fun stuff. Probably not as good as anything you all have but it is pretty cool.

This is one of the more accessible routes.

I wish I would have know this a while. I have been looking for someone to help me get started. I have been wanting to get into climbing about 3 years ago but living in olathe and not knowing anyone kinda held me back. I have popped into ibex and the one of 87th but have yet to step out..

If your game I would like to go climb sometime.. Just realize it will be my first go.

Although I love my motorcycles, you can probably tell by my screen name that my 1st passion is rockclimbing.  Been doing it for over 10 years now, go to Yosemite and J-Tree most every year, all over Arizona any chance I get.  Basically, if I'm not working or riding my motorcycles, I'm climbing!  ;D

If I remember right there is climbing all over the place down there, you just have to stay out of the sun somehow.
Or climb in the winter.

Yep, one might not think of Arizona as a climbing destination, but there are tons of places and year-round climbing if you're willing to drive an hour or two.

No worries that is why I started the thread.

I cannot find anyone who will commit to it. I can find people to climb with but they end up flaking out after the first session or two because they get too sore. Wussies.

I gotta get back in shape and cut some weight before I even think of attempting anything past a 5.9.  :(

I hear you dude. I have not done squat for the last two years. I just started riding my bike and "dieting" but really I just cut some of the crap in my diet out and I dropped 30 lbs in about a month. I am at a good weight now, I just need to start climbing again.

i went climbing a couple weeks ago, but i'm nowhere NEAR my old climbing shape...  best i ever did was a 5.10, and i could do the 5.9's all day, and that was fun!  i had just started working on learning how to lead, then i graduated college and got a job, and the search for climbing buddies was on!  now, when i go, i can make it up some of the 5.9's but it depends on the face; anything with a decent overhang is challenging!  but at least i still know what i NEED to do!!    :D
