836 ring compresssion need help !

Im trying to get my block back on and we are having one hell of a time trying to compress the rings. Any help greatly appreciated. Did the search but cramped for time, got my dad over helping now. Thanks !

Hopefully you have #2 & #3 up with #1 & #4 down. Support the 2 "up" pistons with something like a pair of 2 X 2's front and back to keep them up and not moving. Bring the cylinders down onto the pistons. Squeeze the rings and wiggle the cylinders down over the rings. Some do the ring compression by hand while some use ring compressors. Once you have these 2 pistons inside the cylinders you have to turn the crank to bring up #1 & #4 then do the same. Simple concept but harder the first go around.

You should always check ring gaps before installation. Not to sound like Mother Hen BUT I recently ran into a ring problem with an aftermarket set.

I've seen fresh bored sleeve bottoms not re chamfered, it would make it really tough installing if not addressed.
