Whats with the 3rd hole?
« on: April 07, 2010, 03:15:45 PM »
Decided to polish a triple tree, so I went to the stash, so a rider wont go down and pulled one out. Went of get a beer before settling down at the work bench when I noticed a third threaded hole next to the handlebar clamps. None of my other bikes have this hole. Other bikes include 75F, 77F. 73. 77 auto, 78F and a 72 (all 750). Just curious is all

I think that is where the choke cable pull connects. At least that is where it is on my k7 cb750.

I would guess choke.

That said, mine just mounts at the handlebar clamp.

That question almost sounds inappropriate

If it is from a 750K, I think that is where the choke knob mounting plate attaches?

It does sound inappropriate, but I didst catch it in time. I read some of the replies and everyone is saying "choke cable" That makes sense since the later models had that remote choke cable actuator. Problem is I have several of those late models and none have the wider top tree with the third bolt hole (better?). But who can really tell, I have never seen a "mint" 750 so my  late models could all be wrong...but not very likely.

That ^ pick is my '78 750 with the choke bolted to that hole.  The upper tree on these bikes seems to have a bit of a handlebar rise built into it as well.
