Trying to find CB400F Exhaust
« on: April 04, 2010, 04:10:29 PM »
Hey guys. I joined the forum a couple months ago. I bought a 1975 cb400f that had been sitting inside for almost its whole life. It is a little rough but after oil and spark plug changed, it fired right up for the first time in 30 years. I cleaned the carbs and got it running great, and im gonna keep it a reliable Cafe/Rat looking bike. However I have been trying to find a performance exhuast. Anyone have a one? or know of one that I can buy? Yes i did try putting this in the buy&sale forum, but got no luck. I would be able to trade the stock pipe (which is in great shape.) Im willing to pay a decent price. I have also seen the pipe on the 400four store, anyone running it? how does it sound?
Thanks guys!
Kyle

The 400Four Store and E-bay are probably the only places you'll find a pipe.  Kerker used to make a pipe for the 400F but that was a long time ago.

There is one guy who has after market pipes on ebay for the 400 all the ime in the 350 range. The 400 store ahs a nice one and there are others. Just start googling. The stock header is actually pretty decent and a nice slip on with proper jetting will net you a nice improvement with a lot less cost.

You could also consider a Marving pipe, their Racing model is rather nice (though I can't find a pic anywhere)

I run one of the 400Fourstore.com pipes on one of my 400F race bikes.  Nice constructioin.  Pretty light weight.

If you run the stock baffle as supplied, I think that the pipe is too quiet.  If you pull the baffle completely out it's a titch too loud.  What I did was to pull the fiberglass packing off the baffle and then drill some holes in the baffle plates and I like the way that it sounds now.
