Topic: Cycle-X Triple Tree

I was thinking of replacing the stock triple tree on my '74 CB750 with that of Cycle-X, (seen here http://www.cyclexchange.net/Frame%20Page.htm), but I noticed that it has a flat design instead of the step down design of the stock top tree. How would this affect my front end? I think it would lower it a bit, right? Does anyone have any experience with Cycle-X's triple trees? Or any others in that price range?

Also, I was looking here http://www.ttr400.com/catalog_3.html and it says that theirs has 182mm spacing with a 60mm offset. What exactly is that offset measurement referring to?

The 60mm offset is from the center of the steering stem to the center of the forks. the 182mm is the width of the forks. center to center.

182mm = CB550, CB750 K/F
172mm = CB350F CB400F

60mm offset = CB350F CB400F CB750 K0 K6
50mm offset = CB750F
45mm offset = CB550

Less offset = slower steering, more stable in a straight line.
More offset = quicker steering, less stable in a straight line.

Dropping the forks in the tree= Quicker steering, same as raising the rear ride height.

One observation on the cyclex piece.  It says the top clamp fits the 750s up to 76 and that the entire assembly would fit any year 750.  This means that their setup has the same offset and fork spacing as the pre 77 750s.  In 77 Honda decreased offset on the 750s while fork spacing never changed.  I am 90% sure that the 77/78ks shared the 77/78F models offset which Kevin list as 50mm

Holy Crap did you look at the prices on the triple trees over at ttr400.com???  The set will cost you $725.  Makes the cycle-x ones seem like a bargain at $268!!!

Different products and different quality.  I'd recommend e-mailing TTR400 to see about making them to your specification.  You might be able to get more of what you want for less money.

OH MY GOD! There's no way but $549.95 actually seems reasonable. Those are awesome.

You can also change the trail to improve stability when using more offset (to improve stability)

That may be the most impressive triple I've ever seen.  I never heard of Joker Machine.  Wow, thanks for the link guys!  I'll be keeping my eyes on them.

my K4 has the CycleEX trees from Ken. they fit well and the bike handles well. i bought the chromed aluminum trees. i would buy them again.
