Cb750 swap questions
« on: April 07, 2010, 02:36:32 PM »
Hi everyone,

From reading posts on here I'm sure someone can help. i just purchased a CB750k3 to turn into a cafe. When i bought the bike i received the lower block and carbs and that was it.  Searching for a motor for this has become quite a pain.  I came across a 76f model motor and was wondering if this motor would work. Will it fit in my frame and work with my carbs.  Ive searched on here and other sites for and answer but cant seem to quite come up with anything.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It should fit. To verify the drive sprocket, look to see if the output shaft has a floating ring with 2 bolts that lock the (loosely fitted) sprocket to the groove in the shaft. If so, that's the 530 chain setup, and all will be a direct bolt-in.

If not, you'll have a few chain issues to solve: this later 630 chain version has a sprocket that is rigidly bolted to the drive sprocket with one big end bolt.

And just how would you remedy the problem with the final drive gear? Is there a 530 sprocket that would fit the later single bolt shaft that anyone knows of? or do you have to change the sprocket on the wheel.

Thanks

Steve

There are offset 530 sprockets available for the F3/K7/K8. Gammaflat recently bought one, so he will know the vendor (it escapes me at the moment...). Using the 530 chain will improve HP on the ground, and the sprockets are more readily available.

Thank you for the responses.  I got the motor and will be putting it in this weekend.  Hopefully no big hassles.  I'll update with some pics and info as it comes.  Thanks again
