Hey HondaMan... clutch disassembly
« on: January 22, 2006, 04:09:57 PM »
If I were an Idolator, I'd be worshiping my impact driver.  Just think, years of profanity, broken tools,  rounded bolts and screws, scraped knuckles, and being late to work could have been avoided if I would have spent the $25 for a impact driver.

Anyhow, I've got into the case of my mighty 350F and took apart the clutch.  It looks used but not bad according to me and two other gentlemen in the garage, so the mystery is unsolved.  I'll re-install the plates, run some fancy motorcycle specific oil, go sit in traffic and see if I can duplicate the problem.

HondaMan, were you able to upload some pics for that clutch mod that the rest of us were clamoring for?

And Folks, what oil are you running, Daily drivers vs. Race bikes, I'd like to hear it all!

Hey El Guapo,

I cannot agree with you more about the photos for the clutch mod. YES!!

For your info, I use 10W-40W by Valvoline.  As much as I would like to use the racing oil, I am told that it must be changed more often than the regular oil.  At least, that is what the manufacturers recommend; and of course, it does cost more.

I like many of the qualities of the synthetic oils, but...... I have read that it can cause problems with the clutch over heating, something that we both want to avoid.

I imagine that I will just stay with the regular 10W-40W Valvoline.  My bike is a daily commuter to and from work......... On weekends I do make long trips in the country.  Here in Arizona, that can be an awful long distance between here and there.......... it freaked my wife out the first trip we went on...... she is from New Jersey........  she could not believe a view we were looking at that was 95 miles away..........

Hi, guys...

I'll see if I can rustle up some pix of the mod this weekend. Somewhere in my much-stacked garage is an extra hub...

I'm stuck with remodeling the laundry room for an incoming washer-dryer this Saturday (not very rideable...), which is using most of my time. Plus, my wife's T-Bird developed an intermittent electrical problem (spelled "dies") last week, which is still unsolved, same reason...

I MUCH prefer the "racing" type oils, as they do not foam at high RPM from detergents. This causes intermittent loss of lubrication in the rockers and clutch plates, due to the desigh of the oil pumps in these 4s. The CB350 is SO rev-prone, I'd stick with 15w40 as the lightest, 20w40 or 20w50 in the hot summertime. The 20w50 will cost you 1 HP over the 20w40, but it's worth it for the protection, IMO.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The demons are repulsed when a man does good. Use that.
Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.
