jaguar...Yes factory gl1000 rods with extra and enlarged damping holes and up top I have brazed one of the rebound holes shut on each rod.  Once I brazed the holes shut I lightly sanded the rods, this may be what you are seeing.

would you mind explaining why you brazed the rebound holes shut?  man i can't wait to start on my build!  i was looking up the race tech costs for my GL front end, it's spendy, but i think worth it!!!

I'm glad I caught this thread. I also have an F2. You have set the bar a bit too high for me, but definitely inspiring. Earlier in the thread you listed some used parts. I believe it was pistons and rings. Any chance you have them left? If not, what do you have left.

It came down to everything I have read about front suspension upgrades recommends brazing at least one of the rebound holes shut.  It has to do with the stock front end has to fast of rebound and will feel somewhat like a pogo stick and rebound past the original ride height.  I still have not had a chance to test this out put will put up a report once I get the bike back on the road.

Sorry all the old parts that I am parting with are either sold or spoken for.

yep!  Raising the bar for all of us!

I'm hooked on what you are doing tweak!  Can't wait to hear how that beautiful suspension works!

Brazing one, or both, rebound holes shut will dampen the rebound. Simply because the oil will have more difficulty to flow back. For my replica have shut both holes and the backflow is just by leakage of the seals. Works great on the track, but is 'too heavy' on the road. Disadvantage is that the oil has the tendancy to get hot(ter) and so the viscosity changes.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

i know its been talked about before but i still dont have a clear understanding.
i have the racetech knock offs from MikesXs.  they came with paperwork saying to drill out the holes and make them bigger.  i thought that was to allow the cartridge to do the metering?

Opening up the holes is t oensure that the oil, during compression, has no limitation to flow into the (racetech or Mikexs) valve. The small holes at the top are for the rebound damping.

did he say to open the top or bottom holes?  top holes are for rebound, bottom are from compression.  if you open the bottom holes for compression, it allows the emulator to work as intended...

Thanks voxonda for handling the suspension questions, You explained everything much better than I could have.

wannabriding:  my wife and two little girls are keeping me away from finishing up the bike.  You would think they would no what my priorities are, lol...  I hope to get some time in the garage over the next couple weeks to finish this thing up, but since the weather has been so crappy up here in Seattle with the rain/snow I have been in no real hurry.  The black anodized for brace I have coming from Superbrace will be here next week so that should offer up some motivation.

Thanks for all the interest in my thread, this site kicks a$$....

+1 on wannabridin, open up the bottom holes and drill a few extra. The emulator only works one way, compression!

Thanks guys...  Have to wait for BOTM until I complete the second round of mods.  I wouldn't feel right accepting the nod with the bike in pieces.  I did start it up with the new pipe and it sounds mean!  Once it is completed I will post up new pics and video.

Check out the BOTM thread.....

What a wealth of info! Tagging along (late) and will definitely be referring back often.

I couldn't find the "moto gp werks" guy (exhausts) on ebay - do you have a link to his seller page at all?

After multiple attempts at making a seat for my bike I broke down and had Mac's upholstery in Ballard make me a seat for my 750f.  I had them do a gel pad seat and I am more than happy with the results.  Thanks rat400f for recommending  Mac's.

I have the cr's synced, now just waiting on my dyna2000 ignition to how so I can wrap up the rebuild part 2.

That seat is cool, and the gel pads will be VERY nice on long rides, good investment.
