Thanks for the explanation tweakin, that'll help me when I swap in my 836cc I'm building for Lucy. Also, not to stray off subject, but what kind of setup do you have wrapped up in the Da'Kine bag back there??   :))

Sir,

Very nice project indeed.
Just to chime in on the Glyptal discussion albeit a little late, this stuff is pretty much industry standard in coating generator windings and has been since the 60's?  I would say if it can stand up to the constant stresses in that environment for an extended time, it should be more than useful for inner case coating.

Really nice work on the bike. Congrats!

Question on the cafe seat- did you make it or was it a purchase? I've seen similar ones but none with the back exposed where you mounted your tail light.

Thanks for checking out my build.  The seatpan is from airtech streamlining http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/vintage/vintageseats_round.htm.  I fabbed up a taillight mount bracket to fit up unter the tail section.

Some minor updates.  I was able to get the cam degreed with the help of a friend and a second set of eyes.  While I have the bike torn apart I decided to do some clean up of the wiring and ship off my tins to Nvr2old for some fresh paint.

Looking very clean and sanitary tweakin.  Are you going to be changing your paint scheme?

Yes TT, I am having member Nvr2old (www.meticulouspaint.com) redo the paint scheme for me.  The initial paint job looked good but it was a "garage job" and I felt like it never did the rest of my build justice.  I had a few opportunities to meet Larry and see his work in person an knew he was the person I wanted spraying my bike.

The paint will be similar in colors to what it is now just a bit different.   I am giving Larry some artistic freedom with the paint so I am still not 100% sure on what the finished product will be.  Nothing extreme.

Small update:  I fired up the new engine last night and it took off after the second kick.  Only issue is the #2 cylinder is not firing.  I have narrowed it down to the carbs, the dyna 200 ignition is all good.  #2 is getting fuel but still not firing, so today i will take the carbs off and check the float needle retainer clip direction AND the movement/float height of the carbs. I will also thoroughly clean all those moving parts as well as the idle circuit fuel/air passages.

Even running on 3 cylinders it sounds like a beast.

This may be a silly question, but what exactly was used to coat the inside of the cases?  I was always under the impression that you didn't coat the insides of the cases with anything  :o

The only reason the question is silly is because it was all discussed a few pages back, lol...

Question..
What is the red paint inside the engine cases and will it stay on under the heat and hot oil?

Thanks.

Your eyes are good WR.  The red coating is Glyptal.

http://www.eastwood.com/glyptal-red-brush-on-1-qt.html?srccode=mn130060

Multi-Purpose Glyptal® Red Enamel seals uneven surfaces in engine castings to improve oil circulation

Glyptal 1201 seals the rough interior castings of engine blocks to help prevent engine damage. Sealing the tiny pores left in metal after bead blasting leaves the engine block interior smooth and clean, and that helps keep oil clean and flowing freely.

Acid- and oil-resistant
Also resists moisture, heat dust, salt spray
Anti-corrosion protection

Are my eyes playing tricks, or did you paint the inside of the engine cases too??

Can't wait to see the engine go together!! :)

One page back this was discussed.  It is Glyptal and is specially made for the inside of cases and other engine parts.  Been used for years.

Can't wait to hear it in person.

BTW, did you paint the inside of the cases? LOL!

It seems you got some troubleshooting advice. If it irons out the issue, I may be in business as well.  Best of luck.
Take care,

Yes Jim, it is glyptal and is specifically designed to treat the inside of engine cases ect.  Read above.

I think I got everything ironed out with the carbs.  They are still not completely tuned but all 4 are firing.
