Has Bon Jovi lost their edge?
« on: April 10, 2010, 10:35:16 AM »
That is if they ever had one.  They were in town for two sold out shows and my 72 year old mother went with my sister-in-law to the concert.  She loved it and thought that Ritchie Sambora could really play the guitar.  She even bought a T-shirt that said "my mom went to the Bon Jovi concert and never came home". ;D  My mom is pretty cool for her age so I am not surprised.

I don't know much about the group as I have never listened to any of their CD's but have heard the various hits on the radio.

ha ha. I was just listening to livin on a prayer. me and other drunk punk buddies used to blast that in the car and turn it down for the woa-oh sing along segments to all yell it out.

when I was a kid we would sing 'livin on welfare' with lyrics to go with the theme. and 'shot through the balls, you're in pain, you need a shot of novacaine.' for shot through the heart.

edge, haha.

lost their edge. straight edge kids used to use that term for buddies who secretly drank or smoked.

Well apparently I will get roasted for this. I just recently went to a concert of theirs. They played for almost 3 hours. Straight. They did not stop at all. Till then I was never the biggest fan either, I thought like a lot of you did but after seeing their show. Well I have a new respect for them. First off, how many bands from the 80s are still around AND can actually sell out a show? Not many. Second, how many of them donate or operate charities? Few. While he was in St.Paul, he spent a few hours at a homeless shelter. Not many stars do things like that. Third, he puts on a good show that sounds very good. Not like some bands out there that sound nothing like their studio albums. As far as cock rock, no that would be bands like motley crue.

So wuss they may be but they are good musicians and at least they are not over their peak by about 6 decades like the rolling stones are.

like I said in the first post I don't know much about these guys but they did sell out one show, added another and sold that out.  The reviews were positive and they had local bands as warm up acts.  I just thought it funny my 72 year old mom rocking out. ;D

They are definitely cock rock. It is defined by the amount of screaming teenage girls at their concerts. I saw them in the mid Eighties and i could barely hear them due to said screaming females. Motley Crue , poison, warrant and bands like that were also in this category. I liked some of their early stuff but now its all a bit too cheesy for me.. ;)
