Do check on the slide orientation.  With them in backwards, vacuum will draw fuel from the throttle valve as well as the pilot circuit, easily making it way too rich at idle.

I will look at some pics and see what there suppose to look like, I never took the bank apart but? I still think the accel pump is on the #3 cyl- counting left to right as you sit on the bike. As it sits between #3 and #4 cyl. Have to start again as I just tried to fire her with d7s and I fouled 3 plugs wtf it ran better before. I did give these to a boat mechanic when I started the build to clean them and he said he didn't take the bank apart either, I will look at some start of the build pics and see if I have a pic that shows them different than when I got them back. Opened the throttle and ran a compression check and that bumped her up to about 115...thanks  ps what does the cutaway look like?

OK - It has been awhile since we did anything so I will start anew. Just ordered a gallon of carb dip and I quess we might take the bank apart (for the 1st time) I am still dumping WAY to much fuel in the cylinders. I feel I have them clean but I am second quessing things that I have done (frustration) Is there anything in the slides that could get plugged to cause the fuel problem? Talked to the PO and he says only thing ever done was for honda to check timing when unleaded gas came out. Anyone, could you send me a pic with a clear hose to see your fuel level? Again 78 cb750k...thanks luder

Check out Simon's post on 4-28

Edit This thread was last updated 5-5. Also, it's not the same bike, but the principle is the same.

It does look like the slides are in backwards. I, too, have heard sworn oaths that "nobody ever touched that" only to find it covered with greasy fingerprints.
The cutaway may be very very shallow and the slides are OK, but I have never seen cutaways that small.
Reversed slides make idle mixture insanely rich and spoil the mix up to about 1/2 throttle or more.

The saga continues- I took a break from this girl but we tried again. Pulled the carbs and once again cleaned thoroughly (in my opinion) I set the floats-if the carbs were upside down I raised them about 3/16s inch. She started up and seeing how I am second quessing myself I had changed the timing so she is off. I put some more gas in her as she was low, went and put the gas can away, came back and she was running out of all 4 overflows. Never did that before. I ordered these new float needles from partsnmore, even though they look identical to the old ones could they be wrong? And I did go the right way with the floats didn't I?  Is she ever going to be on the road? I put a looking for sohc mechanic on craigslist and had a few calls. Some ok and some not. A fellow who quote -I eat these things for breakfast- after a good conversation says floats for sure-if he was closer I would be dropping this thing of to him....thanks luder
