Best engine finish?
« on: January 23, 2006, 07:03:12 PM »
The end is drawing nigh on my 78 F2, and I'm pleased with just about everything, 'cept the engine finish.  For starters, there are places where the black has chipped off, and the rocker cover and head gaskets are weeping.  Not leaking, but just a weep that shows it's head a few days after I wipe the motor clean by making the first couple of fins under both the head gasket and the rocker cover gasket a blacker black.

So, I have a parts bike with another engine that I'm gonna rebuild after I get this bike in ridable condition.  Maybe go with the Wiseco 836cc kit and a hotter cam.  If cost is no object (it really is, but I've been spending money on it like it isn't anyway), which engine finish would ya'll recommend?  Powdercoat?  (I know a real good powdercoater pretty close to me)  Ceramic coating?  Don't know a ceramic coater, will have to look for one).  Or plain old high temp paint that I can do myself?  I know this has been touched on in the past, but the powder and ceramic options were not mentioned.

Thanks in advance!

Powdercoating would be the most durable. I have used PJ1 Satin Black Case Paint on heads and cylinders with excellent results. It should work on the F2 cases well IMO. The prep is the most important part. I bead blast everything.
