Alterations to frame for cafe seat?
« on: April 13, 2010, 09:56:59 AM »
I notice that the stock seat on my 75 550f seems to naturally bend up towards the end of the seat. If I were to make a cafe seat pan would I have to grind down the frame at all, or is it the stock seat pan that gives it that upward swing? Also, does a cafe seat need to be welded on? I am a handy person, but have never welded. Any alternatives?

Check out my build thread. Page 14 about half way down.

I found a great way to mount my face seat and EVEN still use the stock hinges and latch.

^ I like your execution, I'm getting close to being in the same boat with my Roc City seat.

??? It never even occurred to me to make a wood frame for the seat... I feel retarded. I pieced together an aluminum frame and had a friend weld it up and then used epoxy to fix it to the seat. It's no where near as pretty as yours though. Nice work.

eh... Blurry cameras make everything look better.  ;) Then again I am a perfectionist, not that you would know it to look at some of the things I've done. I need to get some water sealer for it, though, to keep it from rotting away.

I was actually just talking with my cyclist co-worker about my seat pan and discussed how I was going to do this very thing.  Seeing it just makes it all more obvious.
