Topic: I think I really fudged this one. Suggestions?? GL1000 front end swap

I received my tapered bearings in and started to do the install with the great thread on here. I punched out the old races put in the new ones. Froze the the lower tree and stem, and read about removing the old tapered washer at the bottom of the stem  before install.I went ahead and compared the one on my original 750 and the one on the GL front end. The GL looks like it has considerably less of a taper so I figured I wouldn't use the spacer and run it with the original tapered on. I pounded down the tapered bearing into the frozen stem and tree and still don't have enough stem length due to the original tapered washer. Any one have any suggestions on how to remove the tapered bearing off the stem with out ruining it so that I can start over???

Were you saying something? I couldnt stop looking at your avitar.
Maybe heat? But that might not be good for the bearing?

Since you have something under the bearing, it should be easy to tap off the bearing.. just make sure you are striking the steel inner, not the cage or rollers..

 Myself I would not bother with the freezer..

Just out of curiosity are these All Ball's tapered bearings or a different manufacturer?

I can't stop looking at it myself.

I kept trying to remove the bearing and couldn't make it budge so I ended up ruining the bearing, sucks but oohh well.

Now I'm working on the tapered washer on the stem. This is even harder to remove than the bearings. I tried it on my 750 stem and it popped out by simply prying it up with a flat head. This is simply not the case with the GL washer, I have been relegated back to the hammer and flat head..

I bought the bearings from parts and more. I have to buy another set as I believe these only come in pairs.

This happened to me, I just used a rag and a bench vice.  Then tapped the stem with a hammer.  Bearings are tougher than you think.
