Well I went to see the movie yesterday, and it was brilliant! Burt Munro was an old geezer in New Zealand who fought in WW1 (that's right, the "Great War" as it was called) who just kept modifying his old 1920's era Indian Scout based home made streamliner, and eventually took it to the Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week in 1963, where he broke the world land speed record for a streamlined motorcycle under 1000cc. (201 Mph)
It's incredible to think that an old coot with a heart condition who must have been at least 66 years old, on a home made bike running 40 year old cracked tires (he shaved the tread off with a carving knife to make his own "slicks" and used shoe polish to fill the cracks to get thru the tech inspection) was able to achieve this, and he actually returned another 7 times and broke more records! His 1967 record has never been broken!
He did get a lot of help along the way by some very good hearted American icons like Rollie Free, another old Land Speed record holder, and this movie showed me not only Burts achievements, but the generosity that was afforded him wherever he went in the US, by people who might have initially doubted his ability, but never his determination. 10 out of 10! Cheers, Terry.
