So this thing was free.

And now I'm wondering if I should give it back!   ::)


Guy didn't know what it was.  My best guess was initially cd175, but it has chrome fenders.  So maybe it's a ca175 or cb175.

Thoughts, input, guesses?  The motor says "Type 1" on the right side.

It's  '65 to '68 305 ( CL77) Scrambler, without it's up-swept exhaust....I would say rare.!

yeah that's what I was getting at.

It's a single carb, but it has a cradle-type frame so it doesn't use the engine as a stressed member.  So cb160 is out, and so is the cb72/77.  CB350 is a dual-carb bike, def not a 350.  Maybe a cb250?


Edit:  Spanner, that's it!  I knew somebody here would know what it is.  Thanks!

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

OK so Spanner put me on the right track.  It's actually a CL72, which makes it about a 65 or so.

I found a similar one on ebay that sold already:

yeah free can be expensive but you have a bike.  Hopefully soon you will have a bike to ride  ;D

From the picture it looks like dual carbs. If the serial number starts with CL72 then it is a 250. If it says CL77 then it is a 305. If it has the single carb head then it could be an early Dream. The frame is definately as 250/305 scrambler. They are worth some money these days.

Best of luck getting parts for it, I've been around bikes all my life and never seen one of those?
It looks like an early Dream with those close together fins, that one on Ebay had a steering damper, what's with that?

There was a 175 and a 305 that sold for 2K for both unrestored. I think the 305 was a japanese domestic bike because it had the stamped handlebars.

it might look like dual carbs in the pic, but it's definitely a single carb, I noted that when I was looking at it.  I haven't been back there to look at the serial number (it's at my shop across town) but I seem to recall a CL72 starting it.
