Cam Chain tensioner problem.
« on: April 12, 2010, 11:14:37 am »
I'm putting my 72 cb500 back together and I'm putting the cam chain tensioner back in and I put it in and when I turn the engine over (I am holding the cam tight and letting it roll over my hand) my tensioner seems to be getting hit by something in the block.  I didn't have this problem when I put it together the first time.

Any ideas?

I think the 500/550 tensioner has an "up" side and a "down" side--did you make sure that you put it in right side up? Also, are both the guide blade and the tensioner blade securely in their holder?

I installed it right side up because there is a hole towards the top of it where a bolt goes to hold it in place otherwise you have just the tensioner bolt keeping it there.

I'll have to take it out again and turn it over and see what is actually hitting because it is always on a certain point in the rotation instead of a constant rubbing.
