Motorcycle maintenance class in NYC
« on: June 22, 2010, 01:38:01 PM »
I'm interested in taking a class to learn how to better take care of my bike (750K6). I've been reading and posting here for almost a year now and have learned a lot...but I still think I could benefit from a little hands on instruction.

I've gotten to where I can do a few things, but I want to learn more about timing, points, ignition, carb sync, valve adjustment, etc... I've got tools, bike, and a garage...but no local friends that know jack about bikes.

Does anyone know of any classes in maintenance in the NYC area (Brooklyn would be great)?

Does anyone want to help me perform a 3K maintenance in exchange for beer?

Cheers

Taylor

Man I would help ya out used to live in Bushwick but moved to Texas last year. All the simple maintenance stuff is easy to learn just download a copy of the 750 service manual read it and read it again. And take your time with and learn your bike. As far as moto maintenance classes in NYC there is one at Queens College in Queens or the Bronx that's recommended I was gonna take it but never got around to it. Good luck.

Thanks,

I've got the service manual and I've been experimenting with the bike...I would just really love to have someone with some knowledge watching to keep me from screwing up. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, and I've got a few things down... I'm really good at making an old bike run, now I just want to make it run well!

I heard the queens college class was shut down, but I'll have to check.

Cheers

Prolly better off with Hondaman's book - I haven't picked it up yet but it's the first thing on the list for the time I have cash NOT buying parts :) There may be a deal for SOHC members floating around.

If you can't drop the cash all at once Mike Nixon's manuals helped me get mine apart and back together. Smaller scope than Hondaman's. More like buying a book chapter by chapter.

These guy's will look over your shoulder for the sillyness not covered in the manual (points washers in the wrong order for example - yay! sparks! ;D )

I want Hondaman's book, I'm trying to convince the wife I need it! And his book probably would be the perfect thing for me... I can read my service manual, but it still leaves me with nervous questions.

I have found its always easier to apologize than it is to convince...;D ;D
