My brain tells me that HD springs will put MORE pressure on the rocker to cam surface and would be way more critical to lash clearance. For racing....sure. For the street TT (tavern to tavern) maybe. For thousands of miles and dependability......I think standard springs.

True, stock springs are easier on everything, but less valve control at high rpms.

Hotter cam produce more power up top, people like that, and those with cams have a tendency to rev higher, and may need the spring pressure.

Stock shims can be shimmed but should be checked for travel.

Old Scrambler, I bet if you had an 836 with a hot cam & springs, you couldnt wear it out in 4 or 5 years..

Just a noob here guys just a quick question. Im about to put an 836 kit into my K3 but im not planning to change anything else. Would be bone stock with just an 836 kit. Would that be advisable or do I need to put a diff cam etc. Not planning to go road racing with it. :)

It will work fine, I ride an 836 that is otherwise stock, except for the 4 into 1. A bigger cam will show a bigger increase on a bigger engine but a stocker will run fine.

Yeah i'd agree with that. I worked in a shop where we put in a lot of 836 kits with nothing else, except a 4-1, maybe some rejetting. They were fine, happy customers.  In fact, putting a hotter cam in a stock head will likely make the combo run WORSE, as the stock head is the limiting factor not the cam. Or at least worse in the mid range, which is where you live anyway.

We did some side to side comparisons and with a stock head, you're better off keeping the stock cam with the 836cc kit. At least that was my experience.

Thanks guys for the reply. I was thinking bout getting a cam from an F2 model or something as what I was reading in some of the threads here but given your statements I will most likely keep it all stock, even the 4-4 pipes. Just an old stocker with a slightly bigger heart I guess. I wast just kinda shocked when i saw what will be left of the stock sleeves when the reboring will be finished.  :o

There is no replacement for displacement.

I had a 836cc with a better cam. It is a really fast combo. Too bad I destroyed the engine.
