Topic: Basic cb400 four fuses/electrical question

Hi there

   I got the cb 400 running after years of being dormant, I posted this picture of the bike in another thread


Could somebody answer the basic question, Which slots do which fuses go in? The bike had a few jumbled fuses in it and when I got it running it was fine, but as soon as I connected the rear light to the rest of the wiring loom the main fuse blew. I then shoved one of te others into that position and blew it again.

It happened when I switched the lights on after connecting the rear light. I have the Haynes manual but they don't mention the fuse positions.

I would suggest finding where your turn signal system is shorting first. There is a pretty slick, UK 400f wiring diagram floating around that is color coded and sime to read, online.

Is it the case that the connecting of the rear light and subsequent fuse blowing is related to the turn signal system?

I have not looked at the turn signals yet, I'll have a look at those. the front two are not on yet.

I thought it may be blowing because the fuses were too weak.

Have a look at this. You can isolate individual parts of the circuit to help with fault finding.

Oh yea that's the US version, look pretty similar tho, apart from the extra bulb in the headlamp
