Put new clutch in my 76K have questions?
« on: April 18, 2010, 03:24:04 PM »
I just got done putting a new barnett clutch in my K6. I made adjustments to both ends of the clutch cable but it clunk's into gear when standing putting the gear selector from netrual to first or second gear. Seems to release fine and works fine going down the road. Could my clutch disc be in the wrong order? Replaced clutch disc, plates, springs and cable

Barnetts are notorious for not having flat clutch plates.  Try the stock Honda clutch.

I thought they all went "ker-lunk". Mine does. New clutch - standard Honda.

i would try to tighten the clutch setting a little... it sounds like your clutch is till transferring power to the gears(which is why it clunks as it slams to a stop).... so see if u can have it a little looser of a setting...... which i think is tighter on the adjuster....... but hold tight and wait for the pros to answer

I wanted to bump this topic because i just swapped for a Honda clutch in my 75 750F and am having the same problem.  In the clutch that I removed there was a doubled up clutch plate after the third friction disk.  The clutch that replaced the old one did not have this doubled up clutch plate.  I put the new clutch basket together without the double because the pressure plate wouldn't seat inside the clutch center with it.  Any ideas?
Not trying to hijack you thread Street, just thought we may both get some answers/attention from the pros

This could be the Honda field fix from that era (Honda US Service Bulletin) - they advocated fitting an additional disk - actually from a GL1000 I think, to alleviate clutch chatter.

Here's the Honda bulletin that shows both the field and factory fix. Note the engine numbers for the K and F models.
