Stumped on a blinker - Solved
« on: April 15, 2010, 10:23:12 pm »
Reconnecting all the wiring after a tear down. Got everything to work except the right blinker. These are stock blinkers. First thought bulb was bad, swapped with other stalk, not the culprit. Checked the wire coming from the hand control individually to the rear blinker, worked. checked it to the dummy lights, worked. connected with the front stalk, still didn't work. pulled the socket out of the stem to see if a connection was loose, didn't see anything. The running light does work though, and turns off when the blinker is activated. Any ideas?

Not totally sure about your description there, but sounds like you tested for connectivity/continuity from the blinker switch to right side and can't get continuity all the way to right front blinker.

Did you check bullet? connector splitting from switch control wire to front/rear/signal indicator? for integrity.

What bike?

Are you saying you have power to the socket but the light will not come on?

The bike is a cb550. I checked the wire coming from the handlebar, against the three wires it controls individually, and was able to get the rear blinker to work and the dummy light to work, but the front still didn't work. Should the running lights be receiving their power from the wire leading to to rear blinkers from the bucket? I might draw a lil diagram quick.

it would be a different wire. youll have your orange and lt blue for you turn signals and (i think) the green wire for running lights.

That color diagram is a lot more helpful than the one I'm using from the service manual. Heres a diagram that might help explain what I've tried doing. I have no green wires coming from the blinkers/turn signals. At least the front ones.

Must be something to do with the blinker itself, I switched the wires from the left and right blinker(Orange to Light Blue, and the reverse) and the right blinker still didn't work.

Its odd though that the running light would work, and shut off when the turning light is activated, but just doesn't blink.

that does sound like a wiring issue. you have the two wires on the correct side of the turn signal? one side will be for the running light and one for the turn sig...

You were right it was a ground issue, I ran a wire from the short braided piece on the socket to the fender, and it would blink. I cleaned it all up and reinstalled, and it works fine. Thanks for all the help guys.
