'66 CA77 305 Dream Rear brake Set up
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:18:48 PM »
Can anyone give me some advice on this?

My brakes work, but I canot get enough travel to get the brake light switch to engage.  I have tried to adjust the switch itself, but the linkage is completely screwed up....

thanks!

The foot-lever has to travel a fair amount to properly activate the switch..........If you say it is screwed up it may not be stock. A pic would be helpful or compare your set up to the manual.

This parts book page is the best I could come up with at the present, does it help any?

Have you tested the switch?  I have one of these (150cc Benly) and the switches seem to be pretty dodgy and prone to corrosion.

Hey guys,

Sorry it took so long to get back.

The switch works perfectly, so no problems there.  I am now able to actuate the switch with the lever, but the rear brake travel is unacceptable.  I have the "Honda" shop manual, but it is no help at all.  Sketchy translations, and dark, unclear photos.  I downlaoded the Honda Common Service Manual, but the only reference to brake set up was to align the punch marks on the brake arm with the punchmark on the wheel hub.  I have punch marks on neither....

I did come up with a photo that may be of some help.  I am going to re-spline the brake arm more perpendicular (It is angle too far to the rear), and see if that will take out the play.

I won't be able to do anything for 2 weeks, but I will update with pics ASAP.

If the arm on the brake plate looks like it is in the stock position, the 1st adjustment option is to turn the adjuster in on the actuator rod. If no more adjustment is available, moving the arm on the brake plate BACK one tooth may help. If not, you may need new brake shoes.
