Triumph TT Special Rickman Frame
« on: March 31, 2010, 07:32:25 PM »
I thought I would post a picture of one of my rides.  My dad used to be a machinist at Kosman in the late 60's and early 70's. While there he built his BSA twin (which he still has) and this 800cc Triumph TT on a Rickman frame.
From what I have been told there is the following parts on it:

TT pipes
Joe Hunt Magneto
Fontana 210mm front brake
Ceriani 35mm Fork, Triple Clamp, and dampner
Mikuni Carb
Akront Rims
x2 spare rickman gas tanks (both are larger in size)

We are in the process of getting this thing up and running as he has been talking about selling this thing. Sorry for the crappy pic, used my iphone, I need to get in there with a real camera. Also this is the starting point photo, hence the dust on the seat. When I get back over there in a week or so I will shoot some photos of my 350F progress, his BSA Hornet, and his '03 FZ1.

Do NOT let your dad sell that bike, unless it's to you (or me ;)).  Seriously, that's the kind of thing you should keep in the family, passed along from one generation to the next.

Awesome looking bike.

seems a real shame to sell it. maybe once polished up there'll be a change of heart for the family heirloom?

I dunno my dad get set on something and that is kinda how it  is.  On one hand it is too bad, on the other hand the bike is a handful.  That swing arm is about 2.5" shorter than my 350F swing arm.

Also Zaipai the bike is not a find, it was a bike he built for his high school buddy while he was working at Kosman.  He then inherited it almost 20 years ago.

Whoops I do not mean to double post, but I just reminded my self that I need to post todays photos of the bike.  Sorry I keep forgetting to bring my camera over to my dads house.  I just had my iPhone, photo quality could be better.

Today I did not want to spend too much time indoors as it was too nice out so I came over to work on my car and take some measurements on my CB350F.  I rounded out the bolt on my car and my other idea is not going to pan out.  So instead of having a completely unproductive day, I decided to wash the Rickman tins.

Personally I think it is the sexiest gas tank on any bike.

Here is a shot of the 210mm Fontana Magnesium brake.  It needs some cleaning up.  I am not sure how I am going to do it, I really do not want to disassemble the wheel. The bike has a pair of vintage aluminum Akront rims.  Stickers are still on them.

On a side note does anyone know where to get Rickman gas tank and Avon seat decals?  I am not sure if we are going to replace the decals or sell them as is.  It just means we have to be extra careful when washing the bike.

You might try plastic blasting the wheel if its off, carefull around bearings. Mag can have real corrossion issues so best get it clean and inspect..

The bike never sat outside.  It has been garage kept, so the magnesium is not damaged. It just needs a shining up.  I am going to start looking into cleaning it up and whether I should go with walnut or plastic media.
