K2 Seat on a K8?
« on: April 18, 2010, 03:43:18 PM »
I recently picked up a K8 with a roached out seat and a dented tank.  I have a buddy that will sell a K2 seat and seat for $80, both in decent shape.

I understand that the hinges were on the opposite sides as well as the latch.  The tank drops right on but the petcock is on the opposite side.

I just need a little guidance about the seat fitment.  I don't think it would be a huge issue to drill and use some self-tappers for it to sit on there.  But am concerned about how it would fit to the frame.

Has anyone had any experience with a conversion similar to this?

As you said, the tank is no big deal.  Just remember you only need one fuel line from the tap, so you may need to block one off.

If you can weld, moving the hinges is fairly easy as well.  Maybe some rivets if welding is not in the cards?  Can't help much with the seat retrofit because I used a '78 seat and adjusted to fit with a '72 tank.
It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

tried to do the self tapping myself and it was a royal pain in the @$$. cound not get it to sit right and screws would not support the weight of the seat and would rip out if you opened it and moved it into the vertical poistion. and if i remember correctly the earlier seat pans may be a little bit skinnier.
