oh crap
« on: October 11, 2010, 09:35:14 AM »
just replaced the switch in my 77 550f and rode my 650c to work.  The 650 is still in shakedown mode but runs good, normally.  Guess  which bike now needs a switch, I think.  The lights come on in between the switch detents. cannot get it to stay on.  Runs great if you hold the key so the lights are on.  Will see what I can do after work.  Ordered a new switch on ebay.  Any suggestions on jiggling the switch ar wiggling the wires?  Atleast I am not 7 miles from the nearest exit in the pouring rain.

I recommend jiggling the doohickey or wiggling the thing-a-ma-bobber.

When that doesn't work try saturating everything with electronics cleaner (Advance Auto has it) blow it out with high pressure air. Do this a few times until satisfied. Then re-lube the ignition key hole with graphite lock lube.
Also hit the connectors with the same cleaner and a rag or brass wire brush.

BE SURE TO CHECK ALL OF YOUR GROUNDS!!! It couldn't hurt to polish them up with a brass/steel wire brush either.
